The world's most famous / infamous e-commerce site Amazon is looking at hitting the high street.
The Wall Street Journal announced Amazon are opening a physical store in New York right across from the Empire State Building. This is a trial store for Amazon which if all goes well could lead to many more Amazon stores popping up globally.
What will this Amazon store look like inside ? Contrary to what you may expect (a large warehouse that sells everything Amazon has to offer) the store is to be set out as a customer service centre and focus on Amazon branded goods. Returns, exchanges and pick-ups of online orders will also be catered for.
If all goes as Amazon plans then it's highly likely that we will see the physical stores offering more goods. Amazon could go the way of Tesco or Walmart.
Having a strong physical presence as well as an online one has already caused some heavy debates as to weather Amazon would become too powerful, taking up too much of the market share. The word monopoly has already been mentioned by New Republic who have stated that "Amazon must be stopped".
It's a little early to know just how well Amazon will do on the high street and where it'll all end.
